Self-Portraits Collection of 4, 2022

I began photographing myself nude to better understand how I see my own body. What I found was a cycle of self-surveillance that quickly turned hostile. The camera became a mirror, and the process became a way to notice how often I critiqued myself not as an artist but as an object. As I made these photographs, I realized how easily critique slipped into aggression. I wasn’t just evaluating the work, I was judging my body. It’s difficult to create images of myself without internalizing the same gaze I’m trying to resist. These images are not about confidence or control. They reflect my growth as an artist as I learned to look at myself with enough distance to use my body as a vessel for image making.
